The Jewish Museum and Cultural Center is honored to have received from Stephen Morewitz a model of the Portuguese ship, the SS Quanza. The model was constructed by Martin D. Meyer.

Visit the Museum and learn about the historical relevance to the Tidewater area and the rescue of the Jewish passengers onboard and their escape from Europe during the persecutions by the Nazis.
The SS Quanza
A Journey to America
A hands on display exploring the decision to stay or go and what to take on the journey. Visitors can hear two children and their thoughts and decision on leaving their home to come to America.

This display incorporates sound along with items of the period and reproductions of actual papers.
